ELGIN
AREA WATER
TRANSMISSION MAIN TWINNING PROJECT
History
The
original Elgin Area primary transmission pipeline was
constructed in 1966 and consists of approximately 14.7
kilometres of 750mm (30 inch) concrete pressure pipe from the
water treatment plant in the Municipality of Central Elgin to a
terminal reservoir just east of St. Thomas located in Central
Elgin as well. In order to provide security of supply and
flexibility in accommodating the anticipated long term demand
for municipal water throughout the Elgin Area Primary Water
Supply System, complete or partial twinning of the pipeline
needs to be completed.
Project Description
The Project
involves the design and construction of a 900mm (36 inch)
diameter water transmission main utilizing C301 CPP as the
preferred pipe material; from the Elgin Area
Primary Water Supply System Water Treatment Plant located on
Dexter Line, through an existing pipeline easement and
terminating at the existing Elgin Middlesex Booster Pumping
Station and Reservoir valve house located at 490 South Edgeware
Rd. within the Municipality of Central Elgin. The Project also
involves consideration of the design and construction of a new
connection to a municipal water distribution system at John Wise
Line near Sunset Drive. This project will address the needs and
recommendations as set out in the most recent copy of the Master
Water Plan as well as other supporting documentation and
studies.
Funding for this project has been provided by the Government of
Canada and the Province of Ontario under the Building Canada
Fund and the HELP Clean Water Initiative. The HELP Clean Water
Initiative is a partnership between the Lake Huron Primary Water
Supply System, the Elgin Area Primary Water Supply System, and
the City of London to seek senior government funding for
specified projects which have regionally significant impact to
the water supply systems in this region of Ontario.
